TDS values vary from source to source. What might be good in their water, may not be good in your water without proper acclimitization, which might have to occur over a period of days.

In my opinion, I'd be more concerned about ammonia, nitrIte, nitrAte, and ph levels (tank vs. tap) than I would TDS, for the moment.

I'd never trust any pet store to sample my tank water and rely on them telling me it's "good"...that means absolutely nothing when the above parameters need to be known.

Again, as I mentioned in another of the many threads concerning this tank, purchase an API Freshwater Master Test kit. The tests are not hard to perform, if you need help, ask here.

They are usually less expensive online than at your local pet store, but regardless, you need to get one ASAP, they are a crucial tool in successful FW fishkeeping.

Well everyone is dead except for my original black fins and one white fin. I have added fish for years and never have run into this problem. However I just read where it said to put some of your water from your tank into the bag from the pet store while getting fish acclimated to your tank. This probably would have helped. I never heard of that. However I have decided to use my 10 gal tank. Right now it has a betta in it but think I will put him in my 5 gal and the other guys in my 10 gal. Thanks for everyone's help.
