    No idea to be honest.

Ive found some reports of it being good for african cichlids, but very limited infortmation.

Ive even found something that suggests that its another variety of maple leaf rock.

Been playing around with the rocks to try and make some caves and territories for the salousi. What do you guys think?

I thought I had picked up some quite big rocks, but the tank makes them look small.....

looking good. I tried to find out more info on the spider web rocks but found little at this point other than it not being inert. i seen something about it being a local name in Ohio for a sedimentary rock but not sure if it is the same thing.

That's some really neat looking rock you have there! I'd never heard of it before. Please do continue to share what you learn about it.

Well I am a little bit confused.

I started the cycle Sunday I believe and dosed up to 3ppm of ammonia. No changes in ammonia level Monday and Tuesday. Just tested it and its definitely 2.0ppm now.

Since the ammonia had dropped, I thought I would check the nitrites and expected to see some starting to build up. I have 0.0ppm nitrites showing which I thought was odd.

Checked nitrates out of curiosity and its 20ppm. My tap water has 5.0ppm nitrates so 1.0ppm ammonia has been converted to 15ppm nitrates.

Is it usual for the nitrites stage to be what seems skipped? I expected to see a build up in nitrites first, then a slow decline whilst the nitrate bacteria takes hold and starts to convert the nitrite into nitrate.

I started this cycle completely from nothing. No seeded media, old tank water or bacteria in a bottle. Straight dechlorinated tap water, nothing else.

Found it the reason for my weird test result. My nitrite test kit was out of date! My ph kits were also out of date.

Ammonia. 1-2ppm. Not quite dark enough to be 2ppm
    Nitrite 2ppm
    Nitrate 40ppm

My ph also appears to be 8.0.

Going to do a full test on my tap water to make sure I have an accurate baseline.
