Great idea, might I recommend stargrass, rosette or dwarf sword, and alternanthera reneikii for some red colour. I also like echinodorus tenellus or micro sword for small tanks.

Although most of these plants are not really found in the actual Amazon, they are South American. If you want only Amazonian plants, floaters are your best bet with twigs and leaves underneath. I have this pretty red frogbit that I really like you might want to consider. An easy way to add color in a low light tank Although brighter light encourages red colour. The plant keeps the light filtered and dim for the fish.

Oh my goodness, Waylon, I think this tank is fabulous! I think I need to do something like this myself in my 30 gallon. I keep looking at The Tannin's website, but then I get overwhelmed and tell myself- later-.

    Thanks for sharing :)

Thank you for the info Angelcraze! That is super helpful. There doesn't seem to be a ton of information on amazonian aquarium plants.

No worries Waylon! I've searched for Amazon plants myself many times. I even use plants now found in SA like val Americana because I have it and it grows. The trick is to grow what wants to. Trying to grow a SA plant that just doesn't work can make you crazy. When my angelfish started eating my stargrass, I replaced it with dwarf sag, even though I much better preferred the stargrass in the foreground. Since your tack is much smaller than mine, I'd look for shorter and skinnier plants. Even my ludwigia inclinata grows skinnier than cabomba. I should be using cobamba in my large tanks lol.

Here's some info on plants in our around the amazon river

If you have enough light, staurogyne and reneikii are social plants to try growing.

I found a website that has some plants from Brasil and Peru that I think I will order from soon. Also, I have been having problems with my fish jumping. At first, it was just the tetras so I assumed it was the German Ram bullying the rest of them but then the german ram jumped as well. Last night I noticed that there was a lot of surface agitation and I saw the fish swimming quickly toward the surface as though they thought the bubbles were food. I pointed the return down further so hopefully that will solve the problem.
Also, here is a picture of my farlowella :)

Just double check your temp, if the water is too hot then fish tend to jump also check if the heater is perhaps cracked.

Tank is kept at 80F, heaters are good and I run a Coralife Digital Thermometer on the tank.

Nice sticks. I have been bouncing around at various LFS over here looking for similar. What wood is that?
