My TDS meter arrived from Amazon today. This tank tests at 49 to 50. It changes back and forth.
After I had removed as much of the scum as I could, I had reported it was gone a day later. When feeding my little friends this morning I see it has returned.
After testing the water I found the Nitrates at 40 ppm. Although within safe limits I prefer it much lower so I did a 30% H2O change. Tomorrow I will repeat this.
125 gallon FW community, 38 gallon FW community, 10 gallon FW Mollies, 10 gallon isolation, 2.6 gallon Betta, 1.5 gallon FW shrimp, small garden pond with 3 Comet goldfish and on Koi.

Wow, that's a very low TDS reading. Scatch all the stuff I said, I didn't expect those values. What does your tap water test? Rain water tests 4ppm. My soft water tanks are between 90-110 ppm.

Good idea to do a WC. I would do WCs until the nitrate is down to 10ppm. You might have to do 3 more 30% daily WCs. You could remove more nitrates quicker by upping the WCs to 50% at a time. It's ok to change out water, just don't disturb the filters. Do you have any plants? If not, get some pothos growing out of the tank or live plants inside the tank.
