    What kind of tetra?

Generally speaking, bettas usually are better off by themselves, but it is possible to keep bettas in a community tank, I've done it a few times...just depends on the temperament of the betta, which you won't know about until you try it.

Yes in most cases. The word Tetra is a broad term for many different types of fish. A tetra could be a little neon tetra or even a pirhanna with many other species in between. Do some research on the aggressiveness of the tetras you are interested in or already have. I have a betta in my angelfish tank with a school of redeye tetras and they all get along fine.

Oh I was just wondering in general, my husband asked me today...we want to get both species but still haven't figured out which subtypes...didn't know it was that in-depth. Thank you all!

Yes the "fancy" betta splendens can be kept with tetras. The wild type varieties may not due to water parameters and aggression (either to or by the betta).

I have had many bettas in community tanks and have one now in a temporary tub with corys.
