Best fish food brand
1
I own a coupe of cichlids and I was wondering if anyone could give me a couple of recommendations as to which fish food brand is the best for their kind? Thank you

What kind of cichlids? I have a preference for New Life Spectrum with Naturox preservatives, which is the newest version that just came out in the last few months. It is a little more expensive but it only has one binder, so you will only see wheat/wheat by products once on the label.

Where are you located? If you can get it either retail or by mail order, NorthFin makes some really good pellets (no flakes last I checked) with little filler.
However, they were primarily selling in Canada at least as of a few years ago.

Im glad you posted this. I bought some tetra sticks for my monster fish for pretty cheap compared to what i was getting before. I noticed that they chew the stick than looks like more than have the stick turns into crumbs and turns to waste. Is this what poor quality food is?
I use omega one sm and lg pellets for all my cichlids. For me its easy to get ahold of.
Also i do fresh vegs and my cichlids love cucumber.

since I have been out for a while I have not investigated too much on what is new in fish food. I was going to suggest Hikari gold and or Hikari staple cichlid pellets. I never did have any trouble with it. but after reading this post I started to look around a bit more and I like what i see so far with some of the newer brands and ones I was not familiar with.
thank you fishpro for posting this.

new life spectrum algaemax will provide the best and most comprehensive "green" diet.

I've noticed, too, that Tetra doesn't always compare favourably with other brands. The only item that still stands strong would be TetraBits (sometimes sold as Tetra Prima). In most cases I've switched to the Hikari alternative.

I offer my fish a variety of foods, but for the green side of things (as many Malawis require) I use Nutrafin spirulina flakes. They go bonkers for it and have seen an improvement in growth since including this in the diet.
