I'm delighted for you that you are getting to observe this parental behavior again! It sounds intriguing to watch. Enjoy!

It seems to be working regardless.
Seems like your filter broke with excellent timing. Good on you to get all that media incorporated. You probably had to get very creative to fit it all!

I've found less flow is beneficial for the fry to not expend to much energy looking for food and more of that energy towards growth.

I agree. That and it helps the parents keep them grouped together. I'm trying to de-shade the light consistently for daytime. I still keep some light on 24/7, but want the babies to have a sleep schedule. It's so cute, the parents will put the free-swimmers to bed the first few nights. Usually on a horizontal leaf so they don't fall off. Too much flow and they can't do that.

This is an old vid, but it's my old blue and platinum pair (I rehomed them). They had a disagreement after the pair put the babies to bed the first night after free-swimming and they are sloshing all over the place. I thought it might be neat to see.

Luckily, they occupy such a small area with all their fry, I can siphon the rest of the tank to make up for the reduced flow. The added tank volume gives me a little slack from the mess of feeding the tiny fry often and effect that can have on a smaller tank volume. I'll just add that angelfish are much happier in deep tanks of 18". I went with 18" deep tanks because of this. So it's not necessarily that they don't take up a lot of space, just not horizontal space. They use the whole depth of the tank on one side. It will get harder to siphon once the babies start to venture if they make it that far. That's why a bare-bottom tank and sponge filter is the general setup for a pair of breeding angelfish. The fry could also get trapped in gravel. Sand would be much better as a substrate.

I meant if a substrate is used. I also meant better than MY setup haha. When I redo the breeder tanks, I'll be using sand ;)

Hi there! Thank you :) I wasn't successful with the fry lately. I only got two babies. When I try it again, I'll need some live food! The pair seem to be doing well, they get along so well, they are my favorite pair because they fit so well. Although I haven't seen any spawns from them lately I'm not raising the young at this point anyway, but it really is nice to see them taking care.
