I left my topical fish food top off overnight; so I was wondering does flake food go bad?

Flake food? I wouldn't think so; it's already dried out. I have a huge gallon-sized bag of spirulina flakes that isn't sealed and I've never had any issues with it.

I'm not saying folks should go around leaving foods in open containers haha But if it's dry goods it should be fine as long as it isn't exposed to a lot of moisture.

all fish food will gradually lose nutiritional content as the oxygen in the air oxidizes (reacts with) the vitamins. Leaving a lid open for one night won't have an appreciable effect on the quality of the food, but it is best to avoid. If you have large amounts of food, I would recommend storing most of it in the freezer where it is cold and dark to slow down the degradation rate, and only have out what your fish will consume in a few weeks.

If it's a large quantity, how about a Tupperware container with a tight lid? Might pay to attach a label naming the contents, especially if it's one of those really opaque containers that you can't see through.

And no, I'm not selling Tupperware ...

dry fish food will go bad, it takes a very long time. One night doesn't matter. If your food is ever in question, smell it! When it goes bad it smells like ammonia,
