Find a puffer forum, and ask what medications are safe to use with a puffer for both bacterial infections and parasites. Things to ask like are ich treatments, roundworm treats, and overall parasitic treatment.

Once you fishless cycle the 29g, it will be a quarantine tank already, so you can add the puffers right away and do parasitic treatments. If you plan to have a planted 29g, then you should think about having a separate quarantine tank that you can medicate and not to have to worry about the plants.

Puffers need a little bit of a special diet. Have a plan for food. Something with a carapace to help em keep the beak under control. I raised crawfish to feed mine and supplemented with clams, oysters, and other seafood. Yours will probably need something a little smaller.

QT shouldn't be too big of an issue if there won't be other inhabitants. If there are other inhabitants, they probably won't last long. I'm sure there are some primers out there on what to do and not to do.
Who is "General Failure" and why is he reading my hard drive?

Will your 55g be a saltwater tank? It would be best to post your question in the saltwater section here
    http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/aqua...splay.php?f=62

The SW members can better find your question with experienced answers
There's an invert section as well :)
