Saw some of these online recently and it reminded me that I actually had some eggs laying around. Dug em out and threw a few into my tank to see what happens, and next thing you know I got this little guy swimming around. I'll try and get some better shots soon, just was excited to share this. Sorry about the tannins, lots of driftwood in the tank.

I'd not heard of 'tadpole shrimp' before. (Just looked them up after seeing your photo)
    Quite interesting!
Do you know which species yours is? About how big is the one in your tank? It certainly looks like a neat critter. I'd imagine it is fun to watch, too.

Love triops!. I got sis then quite a few times when she was young. She used to feed them cooked carrots and they would swim all around the little 2.5 gallon tank with their carrots. Can't wait for pics.

Looks like they are longicauditus. The one in my tank is slightly bigger than a nickel now. They grow alarmingly fast. Short life spans too, about 3 months. They will lay eggs but the eggs only hatch if they dry out first, so no risk of getting overpopulated thankfully.

Just wanted to try something in the 110 while I wait for the tannins to calm down and I get the tank setup for its final inhabitants.

If anyone wants some you can find em in quite a few places. These are the ones I have:

How big do they eventually get?...do you remove them from the tank once they die, or let scavengers take care of them?

Once they lay eggs, are they easy to collect?

I THINK they get like half dollar sized, so an inch or an inch and a half. -> http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_W0DkYIujiY...idicus_pic.jpg

I will remove it because dead inverts get gross quick and there's nothing else in the tank right now to eat it.

The eggs are abysmally small and black, looked like pepper flakes almost, so with the black sand I won't be collecting anything. Should make some good snacks down the road for scavengers.
