Hey everyone, just wanted to show off my two new Center pieces that got out of QT today(didn’t do as long as I should’ve as I felt like it would’ve stressed them to much to keep them in longer). They are being pretty shy and checking out things, I’ve lost track of one of them and am thinking he is in the large Anubis/Java fern(close together). I don’t think it helps that the barbs are more active then normal since they decided today was the day they are spawning and I didn’t realise it till they were always acclimated. It was neat to see them spawn though and the barbs didn’t care about the ornates at all. One does seem to be more curious than the other, he kept coming up to the camera while I was taking pics and seems less affected by the cherries. Side note, anyone know the best way to tell genders? I only saw the note on that from seriously fish and couldn’t find anything else on it. Anyway, pics-

Nice fish, congrats!...not a fish I've seen here on the AC yet, requirements are a little picky?

It will be fun to watch their progress

Thanks! I had never heard of them before I went to my LFS(they have a ton of cool/rare fish). Their requirements aren’t to much actually, frozen/live food is usually recommended because they don’t accept dried often, densely planted, calm fish, and stained water. That’s about it. I haven’t been able to get the almond leaves yet for the staining, but should get them next week. The males look stunning when in full colouration so hopefully they’ll start showing their full colours soon!

You are extremely lucky to have a LFS like that nearby...I'd have to drive 2 hours to find a shop that's "decent"

Densely planted for cover, correct?...you could achieve that with lots of DW and rocks too, I would assume

I always buy these IAL's, packed nicely in a foil pouch that's good for freezing, and they are always very fresh...you can buy them in different sizes: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

How about a few FTS of this tank?

What kind of barbs, and what other fish are in there?

No kidding, I’m so happy to have an nice LFS(actually I have 3 awesome LFS, this one just gets rare fish) like this. Gives me a great reason to never leave this area lol.

Yes, they like lots of cover. From my understanding they usually hide in plants in wait for ambush of prey, so that’s one of the reasons the like it.

I’ve already bought the leaves, 1 pack from Malaysia and another from Luffy. The pack from Malaysia would’ve been in the tank by now if I didn’t miss the package... apparently it needed a signature and I didn’t know that. So I checked around a week later to see when they’d be coming... next week I should get them from the post office. Luffys also should have been here but something happened and they had to delay it. Eventually they’ll get here haha

    Cherries and panda cories.

That pic was a little bit ago, but it’s pretty much the same right now.
I’m going to get some more plants under the wood so they have a better spot to hide in closer to the ground. Although, they are small enough they seem to be ok in the other areas and are swimming around a bit more now.

Wetspott does have these, so if your thinking about grabbing some check them out(have had a great experience with them too). They’re under the name Ornate Ctenopama, what most call the I just prefer scientific name. Thank you, I hope they’ll enjoy it and colour up beautifully once they settle in!
