You got me! I have never understood the fascination with jaw breakers. they currently have a stunning Scoly for $1000. I don't have the money and probably wont for a very long time to buy it, but i could see myself buying it if I had the money. The jaw breaker I wouldn't even if I had the money.

I feel that if there's something you want and you can afford it, go for it. I'm pretty basic and have never been the trendy type, so I'll likely just have the common mushrooms, maybe some euphyllia, and be just as happy with my setup as someone with a tank full of high dollar corals. I'm sure I'll enjoy having a few corals in my tank, but what I really enjoy is watching the fish.

I agree, but I enjoy the coral just as much. We will at some point do a large fish only and I'll enjoy that one just as much. My 90 however is designed around the coral and not the fish.

If I did have the money and I don't. I would spend it on this, it makes me want to drool.

Someday it will be within your grasp. That's the new hot thing for now. Someday it will be replaced by something else and the price on that scoly will go down. Nothing stays at the top forever.

Well....that may not be the case with corals. The animals in the wild aren't doing too well with the changing environment, pollution, and collection. If the reefs continue to suffer these massive die-offs, we can expect the local governments to permanently shut down all exports of corals (as they've already tried to do a couple of times). If that happens, the only corals available will be those found in private collections and the black market. I would expect prices to skyrocket in that situation.

Boof made valid points about corals. They're dying out and the reefs are shrinking. If we don't clean up the water and prevent pollution/global warming; all the beautiful & colorful corals will bleach out and die. The growing floating pile of trash in the ocean is also suffocating the life out of the marine life everywhere. We're probably digesting plastic without knowing it indirectly with all the crap in the ocean right now.

Some of my rarer corals, I don't really see for sale anywhere or they're not collected/found. I've had collectors in the hobbies approached me to buy just frags for quite large amounts of money, but I declined them all, lol. It's nice to have a nice mother colony that's both stunning and rare. People just pay for the awesome unique color/pattern and sometimes, it's like you can only get it from one specimen or mother colony.
Think with logic and rationality more than emotion. Act with moderation and consideration. Contemplate ideals and realistic goals and weigh out possibilities and options. Temper not with personal delusions or false hope but learn to accept and move on.

I understand paying for the colors and patterns. I just don’t understand some. I know a lot of that is personal preface. IE I understand the Scolly but not the mushroom.

I will say I have never been an “environmentalist” of even the smallest kind. Having a reef tank has at least gotten my attention of the horrible shape our oceans are in. It is sad to think of coral being gone, minus the stuff in tanks.

Super dark video but it’s when stitch is most active. Little shop of him snatching some food up.

So not about this build but didn’t want to start a new thread.

If you guys had this for a saltwater pond, not a reef (maybe some softies) but a fowlr what would you want to put in it? It’s 69” x 63 1/4 x 25”. Keep in mind it’s an open top so known jumpers like eels are out. Just looking for some ideas. I know one fish on the list is a sea goblin maybe, they hide a lot.

I guess I’ll my input as well. Thinking some breed of grouper, maybe a large angel, puffer for the wife. Not sure if one of the tiny shark breeds would be ok in there or not. Maybe a lion fish. Just looking for some other cool ideas.
