Sorry for the loss of your dog. Quite a different relationship with our 4-footed, furry friends. I lost a 17 yr old dog last spring so I understand the emotions that surface. I still think of her from time to time and I still have a 14 yr old dog with me.

On the other hand, I lost a 14 yr old fish a year or two ago and was quite relieved. Not my favorite as he ate many plants and ran and hid if you went near the tank. Still waiting for his buddy to pass on who's now about 15-16 yrs old and I won't be sad. Now, if my angelfish were to die, I'd have a moment of sadness for him, but then move on quickly.

    Very sorry for you loss.

Our four legged friends are very close to us that is for sure.

Regarding fish though, you do get use to stock dying. Some old age, other issues. But for me its tragic when i loose a rare species from age or what not. Even more so when its my own bread stock.

Fish, not so much, but we were heartbroken when our pet rat, Snickers, passed away. She was the most cuddly and intelligent creature, would crawl up the inside of your shirt and out the collar and perch on your shoulder as you walked around the house. She crawled on us constantly and was so inquisitive. She died way too young. Had complications with her first litter and we lost her - along with all her pups - during labor.

We haven't lost one of our dogs, yet. We've had the two oldest ones for 7 years. Not looking forward to losing them.

Sorry to hear about your poor pup. I can only imagine what that's like after so long together :(

    Sorry for your loss.
Still miss our beautiful lab Monty though we now have Bliss. 4 years back and it still brings tears in my eyes. Beautiful "old" soul.

She is still at my phone and at my desktop in the office ! Seeing her every day !

Sorry for your loss :( I lost Snoop nearly 5 years ago, he was only 8 years old, I still have his sister Chelsea, and if she morned him I don't think I would have gotten though it. I still tear up when I think of him, it is really a close bond I don't think anyone would understand until they own a dog themselves.

Non-cichlid fish don't get much of a reaction upon death, but I feel pretty sad for a while when an angelfish or ram passes away, most likely because they are social fish with individual personalities and interact with humans. I'm more upset about what is wrong with my tank then for one fish dying and if they pass on from old age, I'm pretty satisfied that they had a good life.
