Since doing the water change on my tank, my platy has become more active. Used to be that she would just sit in the corner of the back bottom of the tank. Her fins aren't quite as clamped as the were before the water change.

    Good news.

Personally, for HOB filters, I like the AquaClears...I own 5 of them for 4 different tanks...easy to maintain and clean, and you can choose the media for your BB colony to grow on from many different types...I prefer ceramic rings, they last a very long time and are easy to clean (in old tank water, of course)

For my 10G, I use an AC30, rated for 30 gallons

Were you able to find some Prime?...it may be cheaper to order online than buying locally, like most fish supplies usually are

Yes I was able to get some Prime. I also bought some stuff called Stability from Seachem as well. Also my tank is heavily planted with live plants, and I am using FloraMax from Carib Sea for the substrate.

Can you post a pic of the tank here?

For now, I'd just maintain the nice clean water change regimen, check params daily...don't add any more chemicals than necessary, save your receipt for the Stability...you don't need it

    Looks good.

Why the lower water level?...you nay get better surface agitation with the level closer to the waterfall of the Penguin HOB.

set up for a year, what was your stocking of fish schedule like?...did you add all of the fish at once, or over time?

I had added the fish over time, that was what my research had told me to do. As for the low water level, the surface agitation is excellent from the HOB filter but it is mainly for the snails so that the can come up out of the water at times.

One thing that I am thinking of doing in April is upgrading my tank to a 20 gallon tank. From there, what is the recommended amount of fish that I would be able to stock the tank with? What is the recommended amount of fish I should have in my ten gallon tank?

What kind of snails do you have?...no aquatic snails I know of need to come up out of the water

Upgrading would be a good idea...the amount of fish you can keep in a given size tank just depends on many variables...filtration, size of the fish, amount of fish...some fish have bigger bioloads than others

The snails are called Mystery Snails.
