    Welcome to the AC.

What size tank is this, and what kind of heater?

I'd keep my hands out of there for now, this could be a serious issue....how many electrical devices are IN the tank?...powerheads, heaters, etc...

That does not sound good. If you can readily determine the piece of equipment that is shorting, why not pull it out?

If it's a heater, you could wrap your tank in bubblewrap, blankets etc until you can purchase a replacement in the morning. If it is one of your filters, could the media be pulled and placed in tank, then the faulty filter removed? Hopefully you've got more than one filter running on this tank.

Please do be careful, whatever route you go.

4 foot tank, no heater , we donít need a heater in this climate. It seems to be okay now it might of been that the water was to acidic?o had a small cut on my finger .... did seem weird it didnít tingle with the pump turned off..... all good now

I echo everything that has been said. Be safe. I would also point out that Oscars have different temperature needs than goldfish, and so after the immediate crisis of possible electrical shorting has been solved, you might want to rethink the housing situation.

Of course we can fit another tank in; we don't really need a couch, do we?

Get a voltage meter, put the black prob in a ground and the red in the water. That will for sure tell you how much is going through the tank. Then just plug and unplug till you figure out what is doing it.
