Ok so my dad has a 110 with the 1 bosmani 2 turquoise and 4 clown loaches. The loaches are from 15 to 10 years old. They are turning grey and the rainbows are huge. The problem is every time he tries to add more the big bosmani kills all new comers and he is looking a bit haggard. How can I help him re stock it with some Iranian reds and Praecox possibly. We are going to get another filter tomorrow and a new light so he can switch to real plants again. It has been kinda coasting sense 94 when he switched it to a freshwater tank from saltwater after a massive die off during a vacation. I know he really likes these fish so getting rid of them is a no go.

You would have to stock female boesemani, with a minimum of 3. If you want to add other rainbows, stock a ratio of 1male per 3females. Add all the fish at the same time, and the old boesemani will have difficulty targetting a single rainbow.

Well we went to the lfs and ended up with 3 smallish cichlids and so far the tank is in balance. The cichlids and loaches play on the bottom and the rainbows are up in the open water.
