This how my old lightning rod was

Not the best picture but you get the idea all be it I'll weld 10mm plate to attach harnesses to as these ones bolt onto cage.

Good to hear. That one coming only halfway then coming around on the side with just a little brace under it is funky. The lack of the diagonal is the scariest part, though. The diagonal in the main hoop provides the majority of the strength in the main hoop. Between my engineering background and my obsession with auto racing, I'm just a big stickler for point out things I see that could compromise safety when it comes to cages.

That is one of the quirkiest cage I've seen, with the whole thing at an angle. And I understand it's a small car, but dang that's some small tubing.

If you look on the picture of lighting rod cage above I'll also add a diagonal from pillar down to chick bars like that one in picture it stops that pillar coming in

Absolutely blows my mind how there's no diagonal in the main hoop. I don't know one wheel to wheel racing organization here that would allow a cage without one. Heck, the FIA cages use a pair of diagonals creating an "X" in the main hoop. You're just asking for that thing to collapse on itself in a roll over at speed.

It's been ran like that here for at least the last 20 years that I know off.

Back in the day the bangers use to just use acro props like this as used in scaffolding !!

Use to have one behind seat going from floor to roof and the other going from B pillar to B pillar that was it back then

That's how the majority of short tracks here run their once a year, basically demo derby racing. Arguably the most dangerous event has the least safety. You get a bunch of inexperienced drivers on the track, don't require them to wear any personal safety equipment besides a helmet, and the only requirement for car "safety" is a pipe welded behind the driver's seat (which can be the stock seat) from floor to ceiling. Absolutely blows my mind how little people care about their well being.

Had a few hours on the car today and managed to trim some more weight out of it !!!

Cross bracings on floor removed and pillar bracings removed

    Pillar bracing in place

    And with it removed

This all what was removed today

And gave the inside a good clean out ready for cage now that's next

All cuts still need cleaning up and made tidy but they can be done after the cage is all in its coming on now :)
