Since Paraguard only lasts (is effective) for 24 hours I wouldn't think that you would need to use a carbon pouch. I would just do a large WC and then proceed with the kanamycin/ furan treatment.

I hope it's not columnaris, when I dealt with it (fish in QT from the chain LFS) I was losing a few fish everyday at first. I find that disease kills extremely fast. Although, I'm not too sure if it always kills quickly, like in 48 hours, so I'm not saying it's not columnaris. None of my other fish (fish already in my tank) got sick at all, so I still say healthy fish in healthy tanks don't get sick. Well, most of the time. With columnaris, I saw the whiteness in the expected saddleback area on more than two fish and they were not keeping up with the school and loosing equilibrium. They were the same at the store, and I wasn't familiar enough with the disease to diagnose, and just thought they were injured fish. Still learning about diseases myself. Well, I really hope with your prestine care and heavier meds your bloodfin is able to recover whatever the issue is. Is he not looking any better? Is he swimming oddly?

columnaris kills within 72 hours, healthy fish can succumb to it as a result of it becoming more virulent in a host fish

Unhappy FISS: Fish is still sick

FISS: Fish is still sick (one tough fish)
--white ring around caudal peduncle/saddle area, with black spot at the bottom
--head is opaque, with pop eyes, and white mass in lower jaw
--breathing a little harder, can't always keep up with tankmates, but otherwise seems as healthy
    --Slightly clamped fins?

    WWYD: What would you do?
--Continue with full three week course of Metroplex? Or try something else?
    --Add Furan-2? or?
--Time to try something else (suggestion)?

    MSF: Medications so far
PARAGUARD 10-day course (then discontinued), then:
KANAPLEX six-day course of three tx (max per package), along with:
METROPLEX every other day, dose #6 today.

50% WC 10/7 -- Water quality remains excellent. I upped the heater to 80 degrees F.

NOTE: The Bloodfin had looked a little better when started KANAPLEX/METROPLEX, but now worsened (same as before). None of my other fish have any symptoms.

Could she use Jungle Fungus Clean in place of furan-2? It is cheaper at Walmart.
