I am researching the disease/cure now, but thought I'd get a post up about this right away.

I added some shrimp and new plants yesterday. Today one of my Aphyocharax anisitsi/Bloodfin Tetras has an opaque cream/whitish stripe on its lower body just above the caudal fin. I believe this area is called the caudal peduncle.

I think(?) I also see a little dark spot at the bottom of this area, closest to the caudal fin.

The fish is acting normal, and does not seem to be in distress.

I have on hand: Prazipro, Paraguard, and API General Cure.

This was the best photo I could come up with. I can try again if we need a more clear photo.

    Thanks.

After some research, my best guess is some sort of fungus. I took a closer look and it does seem the white area may be very slightly fluffy, like a tiny bit of cotton.

My on-hand arsenal of Prazipro, Paraguard, and API General Cure are for parasites, so they won't help.

I need to go to the fish store.

    Researching best fungal treatments now.

After some research, my best guess is some sort of fungus. I took a closer look and it does seem the white area may be very slightly fluffy, like a tiny bit of cotton.

I'm feeling this situation is a little complicated because some treatments may harm my BB, and treatments with malachite green might cause its own problems.

    Still researching.

It does seem my on-hand arsenal of Prazipro, Paraguard, and API General Cure are for parasites.

However, the Paraguard instructions say that it will treat fungus. It says it is an alternative to formulin. It has malachite green in it.

I may need to go to the fish store. I'd love to start something immediately. Maybe I'll start the Paraguard if I can't find someone to help! Yikes.

I have found ParaGuard--which I have at hand--listed as a treatment for fungus on multiple sites/threads, so I started daily treatment at recommended dose.

I found ParaGuard on the lists of medications that are safe for shrimp.

I appreciate help from anyone who has more questions or suggestions.

I have continued this thread on my aquarium journal: http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/aquariumforum/showthread.php?t=125852
