    Default Worried About My Tank

    0 Not allowed!
I have a ten gallon tank with both rocks and sand, live plants, three Neon Tetras, two Ghost Shrimp, and a Beta. Recently my Beta has been stressing out the tank by chasing after my Neon Tetras. The Neon Tetras have started to fade in color and they don't eat as much as they used to. They don't have a full school yet either, so I was planning to add more Neon Tetras to the tank later on to give then some comfort. Should I remove the Beta from the tank and give him his own or get more Neon Tetras to have a full school?

If he's chasing the neons now, adding more won't curb that behavior...I would get the betta his own tank

For the most part (unless you have a large tank -min 30 gallons) bettas are one fish tanks. they like their territory.

I say yes to both. The betta needs his own tank. I've had betta that did well in a 10g with a school of small fish and I've had some that wouldn't tolerate any tank mates. It all depends on the personality of the betta. You also need to add to the school of neons.
However, if it was up to me, I would leave the betta in the 10g and get a 20g long for the neons. I know the internet and many people say neons are fine in a 10g, but my experience with them is, they do better in a longer tank.

Everything happens for a reason. Sometimes that reason is you are stupid and make bad decisions.

I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.

So, Emily, you got through almost three responses before someone told you that you need a bigger tank. Welcome to the forum! :)

You know as well as I do, not really lol, bigger is always better. I read about a study in National Geographic some time ago about territory and aggression. They set up two tanks identical in every way except, one was much larger than the other. They stocked the tank with Midas cichlids. The fish in the smaller tank were much more aggressive than the ones in the larger tank. Size really does matter, don't let anyone tell you different.

Thanks Rocksor, I've been looking for the article for a while now.
