    Hi everyone!

It has been SO long since I've posted here!!! I'm so happy to be coming back to the group that inspired me in my fish journeys when I first began. I'm returning to you now with the hopes that you all will be able to collectively help me once again.

I've been out of the hobby for a couple years now, but am preparing to return asap. I will be setting up a 55g tank, running an EHEIM (300 gph), and heating with an inline heater. Will very likely be building our own stand, and will be spray painting the back of the tank black for the background (outside only of course).

All that in mind, I need opinions and advice on stock choices.

    What I want to have:
1 school of Tiger barbs (15?)
    1 school of Serpae Tetras (15, 20?)
    1 school undetermined

    My questions:
    Is this a possible combination?
Are the numbers acceptable for the fish and tank size?
What could a possible third species be (if appropriate)?

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my questions. I really hope to see some familiar faces!!!

    Mandy

    Hey mandy,

    Welcome back to ac.

For me i would be looking at a stocking more tiger barbs and deleting the serpae tetras.

Tiger barbs really do ultra well in larger groups. The large more friendly they get and also the more vibrant.

I'm glad to see back Mandy, I remember you were very active here when I first started.

Your numbers look fine for a tank that size, you could probably up your serpae to 20. If two aggressive fish were meant to coexist it's the two you have chosen, the one time my younger son was interested, that was the tank I set up for him with these two species because they are both so hardy and tough. Just don't get the long finned serpae, as the TB's might still be tempted to nip.

    Anyway, welcome back ;-)

Thank you for the gracious reception! :)

I do remember a few of you, especially steeler. Thank you so much for the advice as well. I'll be starting a journal for this tank likely. So keep your eyes peeled. ;)

Hi, Mandy. Nice to see you again. I've never kept serpaes but from all I've read they should be fine with tigers.

How about some Odessa barbs? Black rubies? Platies? Some cories or Dwarf chain loaches on the bottom?
