I believe it. When I got my first assassins everyone said that they wouldn't go after large mystery snails. I dropped the assassin in the tank and it immediately beelined straight for my mystery snail, a bladder snail crossed directly in front of it and it continued to the mystery snail and "stung" it, I had to pull the assassin off the mystery snail as it wedged itself between the snail and it's trap door so it couldn't close up shop. The mystery snail was never the same afterwards, spent most of its time hiding in Italy shell and died a few weeks later. I won't put assassins in with any invert I wanted to keep after that experience.

One of the comments at the Youtube post:

"Sorry, the explanation was in Dutch in the caption. Firstly, this is a video from a friends' tank. The shrimp was obviously very weak and was already dying at that time. She quickly made a video because it's rarely captured on video."

my 75g planted tank at one time had hundreds each of RCS and assassin snails. lately both populations have been in serious decline. I'm inclined to blame the "rescue" blue acara I put in there, but I don't really know for sure. Seems like the two species coexisted for quite a while.

A blue acara would go after the RCS for sure.

Wow, how rotten, I don't have any assassins in the two 5.5 gallon tanks, but did in the 20L with the pearls and the sakuras (which died from ammonia not assassins) but the decline of the pearls could definitely be due to a healthy assassin population. Looking forward to be mts free when I switch out the substrates. I know they are live-birthers-but all of my plants are going to get an alum dip when I move because I am sick and tired of dealing with a problem by making a new problem.

I thought this was YOUR tank André! I've seen vids on YouTube, where assassins snails killed off another invert. I keep my assassins with amano and bamboo shrimp, no decline there, but I never noticed a decline in neocaridina shrimp either with assassins. It might depend on how much food the assassins have and the population of assassins vs available food? Most of the time, I keep one of two per 3ft tank just to keep the pest snails under some kind of control.

That's a pretty scary thought, if the assassin snail can sting a healthy prey, sure looked like that happened, but the first assassin went for the head, the rest of the twitching could be nerves?

I know hydra sting and paralyze their prey, I've had whole batches of fry succum to an unnoticed hydra infestation, but I've never read about assassin snails being able to sting. You'd think seeing an assasin snail eat wouldn't be such a rare sighting if they stung healthy prey. That RCS was pretty stupid not to swim to the other side. But I do admit, with lots of assassins, and I mean breeding assasin colonies, do sneak up quickly on a sick/dying prey out of nowhere it seems.
