It is a 60 gallon cube tank 24x24x24. Five discus total in tank.
The largest fish... the Alenquer F1 is about 14 months.
the 2 Golden Melon Throwbacks are a year old.
The smaller Alenquer F1 and the Ring Leopard are appx. 10 months old.
A new tank? No, not for the discus.

How long have you had them in this tank? Your discus are beautiful, lots of gorgeous colors!! I am a fan of the cube tanks, they are beautiful, how did you place yours? It must be a bit difficult to maintain given the depth front to back.

How are you filtering your tank? Are daily water changes part of your regular routine?
Are you seeing any discus courtship behaviors yet?

Technically, 5 discus in a 60 gallon would be acceptable if you are going with the 10g/per fish rule. But just to give you a heads up, (unless you already know, than my appologies) cichlids are cichlids and you never know how each one will act as he/she ages. If you see some courtship already, you might have noticed an increase in aggression.

Looking at your tank, and pls take this with a grain of salt, I think if you could move your beautiful amazon swords a bit forward, and add a tall thicker leaves vallisneria at the background, val americana is a great one, that might help give your disus more places to hide should they want to, and territory divisions, making them feel even happier.

I personally would keep a pair of discus in a 60g cube. But I understock and give my cichlids lots of room. I would consider a 100g cube for 5 discus myself. I'm curious how it's working for you.

Would you consider waiting for a pair, rehoming the rest and maybe getting some dwarf cichlids from South America like German Blue Rams who can tolerate the high heat discus require? Again, only thoughts.

    Thanks for your input.

This set of discus have been in this tank for about 8 months.
The depth of the tank is actually the hardest part of having this tank, but I have an extra long Python hose to clean up the substrate-- so its fine.
I just added the plants and substrate a month ago, prior to that it had just a light dusting of PFS and driftwood as I fed so often and did so many water changes that it was senseless to have substrate of plants.

    As juveniles ( 3.5-4 inches) I changed water every other day @75 percent--- feeding ( freeze-dried black-worms and frozen beef-heart) 3-5 x daily.
Once they all hit 4 inches I changed water at 3 x75% weekly---- feeding 3X daily. ( same as above, but occasional blood-worms added) 3 x daily.
Once all hit 5.5 I now change 75% 2 x weekly and feed 3x daily.

The aggression had started up about a month or so ago as the 2 Alenquers in the tank paired up and started spawning.
When I placed the Plants in tank this aggression has subsided substantially. They had just spawned again four days ago and there was little to no aggression with the other three as they all went to other side of tank.

Thanks for the tip concerning the Vallisneria. I actually have some planted behind the stump, but it hasn't done well. I may try getting some more.

All the discus are doing quite well in this set-up actually. I have thought about moving the Alenquers to a 40 gallon breeder, they obviously are ready to produce some fry!
