My city's water department website says chlorine, not chloramines, along with other values like pH, kH, bacterial counts, etc.
    http://english.water.gov.taipei/ct.a...3901&mp=114012

I don't recall where I learned it, but water can be dechlorinated by exposure to UV/sunlight (photolysis or something). I leave my water buckets at the window for at least a day or two; it caused no problems with my old cherries.

If this is incorrect, I will order some Prime ASAP.

Chlorine degradation due to UV is the primary reason pool water must have regular chlorine treatments (unless its a saltwater pool), but I can definitely be wrong. I think a stabiling agent is added to help the chlorine last longer.

Yes, if it is chlorine, it can be "gassed" off, if I'm not mistaken.

I'd still get the Prime, just for it's detoxification properties with ammonia, trItes, and trAtes

Regarding planting, there are a few members here who have experience with growing HC. I'm not one, but I hope one of them will chime in for you.

I ordered some Seachem Prime, so it should arrive in the next day ir so. Benefits of living on an island!

While searching for the Prime, I was also trying to find an ammonia test kit. All I see is strips... are they accurate enough for my purposes? Strips make me feel like I'd be asking the shrimps to pee in a cup.

Also, what the heck is this? I've never seen a product to "sterilize" aquarium water. It claims it can kill fish pathogens (other model for shrimps) and inhibit algae growth, but leave BB intact.

Someone in my complex was moving out yesterday and left a 70g+ tank by the trash bins. Luckily it was way too heavy for me to drag home (had a metal support frame instead of plastic, my favorite)... well, I keep thinking about so maybe not so lucky. I only recall seeing one other metal (stainless steel?) framed aquarium before, and it was something I'd dug out of my grandparents' garage. Are they just not manufactured anymore?

I've seen many people calling these metal framed aquariums "vintage" and spending time to restore them. I don't think they're produced anymore.
