Default Swelling and loss of skin on kuhli loach?

    0 Not allowed!
I introduced my kuhli loaches into my main tank about a month ago and one instantly disappeared. He was the smallest and I just figured the transition was too much. The others have been doing well even making it through a heat treatment for ich with flying colors. Today I put in my kuhlis food and they all swam over. I did my daily count and all were accounted for when this little guy "swam" out from under the kuhli log. He is horribly thin and can't seem to swim straight. Right near his dorsal fin he has a swelling where his skin is discolored and seems to be peeling like a sunburn.

End Note: I know some people don't like it but I am okay with euthanasia as a suggestion. I don't want anything to suffer.

I put him in a shallow hospital bucket with a bubbler and melafix and it seemed to help for a bit but now he is on his back/side and extremely lethargic. I can now see his stomach is bright red and he appears to have a prolapse. I am running out of ideas.

If you have him in the bucket still give him some cover to reduce his stress level. They definitely are more comfortable that way and stress never helps an illness. Keep him somewhere dark as well.

I can't advise on the particular issue but clean water and comfort won't hurt until someone that has a better idea for treatment chimes in.

I put in a cichlid cove for him and he immediately went in. I just checked on him and he was gone. I wish I knew what happened so I could keep this from ever happening again. I am afraid he has been trapped somewhere for the past month and I have been oblivious.

Sorry you lost the fish. It could well have been he was stuck and just too far lost by the time he made it out.

Sorry to hear that you lost him.
Do as I say. Not as I do.
