Default Wood turtle babies (growth rate) - Rhinoclemmys pulcherrima manni

I encountered these two guys hanging together in the garden so i couldn't pass up the chance to show the growth rate of central American wood turtles (Rhinoclemmys pulcherrima manni) in their "natural" habitat.

The smaller guy is newly hatched. Likely one week or less. The larger one is born last fall and is about 6-8 months of old. He will add about 1/2 inch more by his or her first birthday.

Turtle, Terrapin or Tortoise? Take your pick. They're all a form of turtle. And turtles are fascinating. There are so many species all over the world, from the deserts to the oceans and nearly everywhere in between. I doubt there are any in the Arctic or Antarctica -- but maybe there are. Anyone know?

These have very pretty shells. It is neat to see them lined up next to a matchbook. An interesting comparison between the two ages.

There is not. Turtles do not do well in cold climates. There are none in Northern Europe either. (there is on small population in Denmark that might be released or might be there since the bronze age when Europe was warmer.)

Neat! When I was young we had many tortoises in the backyard. They were interesting pets. One would over eat apricots that fell from our tree each summer. Another would come up to our back door and wait for veggies.
When I go fishing I just throw sharp rocks in the water and wait for the dead fish to float to the top... Kingfisher
Everything happens for a reason. Sometimes that reason is you are stupid and make bad decisions.

I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
Dear naps, sorry I hated you so much when I was a child... Love me
