Just some random pics of male guppies. In general I keep shorttailed guppies but for sure there are also big tailed ones swimming around.

Thanks so much for sharing. I love guppies. I haven't shared PICs of mine and I have no valid excuse. I will get on that soon.

    I did and I do...!
I still keep and breed those swamp guppies. Although, they're no actual guppies, they are related to them. This is a subgenus within the genus Poecilia. But these swamp guppies can crossbreed with guppies. Even the offspring of such an interbreeding can be fertile unlike what some other people may say about it. I've hybridized them in the past and those offspring were fertile. But I do have to admit that those offspring didn't had the same lifespan as thier parents. Each offspring didn't last than 6-8 months. But who knows some day the same cross may last longer...

I had wild colored and yellow ones in the past. Nowadays, I'm keeping the red specimens. These reds are fancies. So, this version hardly occurs in free nature. Orangelike specimens however do occur in the wild. But even with this aquarium strain, the red coloration does differ from fish to fish. The same goes for the body markings. The aquarium strain is mostly bred in Thailand in freshwater. But actually, this species is mainly found in brackish waters throughout a wide range in upper South America.

Overhere at my place they're held in brackish water. They do so much better in there than in freshwater. The aquarium strain can be held in freshwater perfectly but they do tend to live a lot longer when salt will be added. An lfs would probably say the opposite for that would mean business again.

It's considered not being the most easy to keep livebearer.
I myself think it's an amazing fish. It's also my favorite livebearer.

Yeah-she wanted to set up a brackish tank for them since she read they are found in fresh or brackish waters. She is contacting a friend in CA to see if they still have some. She did find a place that offered them for $18 a pair.
