Haha funny you say that, I actually do have to do that when trying to photo my CPDs or the Congo Tetras... Never thought of doing it for the Kribs to catch them with color on, doh! I did catch Ms Ida while she was out a moment today though, she's nicely colored about anytime she's out of her hovel, likely because she's threatening to bring the apocalypse to anyone who dares come near her lol.

Another photo of Red, of course is he stinker dropped color again before I had my phone but he/she doesn't run and stayed decently broadside for gender guessing. Maybe I should stop trying to assign gender though maybe he or she hasn't yet decided exactly to live her life yet.

Here's Ida, my jerk face out and challenging as usual. She had an epically red tummy last night and was dancing for the ctenopomas, I'm not sure if she's confused too or was just trying to sneak up on them, she does that sometimes to the newest addition... Gets his attention and then slams him... She's a real peach lol

A couple shots of the current setup in the tank. Messy and disheveled as usual and I've developed an algae that's new to me... It's almost like BBA but not quite.

Other side with the crypt patch.

I'll try to get a decent video today and show off everyone together...

Sorry I apparently failed to post the update with comments on my photos @angelcraze2. That's actually Red and Ida in the photos. Ida is definitely female shes all rounded off and definitely female the photo rushed as she is apt to tearing off after someone or back to her cave so I took my moment lol. But it is a second photo of Red. Reds my "gender neutral" fish... I cannot decide on Red. Fins are shorter like female but not quite pointed or rounded more of a rounded off point but don't curve back over the tail fin like a male... But I've never see a red belly like a female it's just a whole red underside including chin and back through like normal. No egg spots on Red either. Plus Reds More of a chubby like female vs slimmer like a male. Lol I suppose I could go to a FB forum and just post and take a vote lol go with popular vote but I'm kind of enjoying the guessing game.

I'm enjoying the guessing game as well lol, I'm very curious what gender they are as well.

Actually, looking again, Ida looks like a female. Yellow on the fins and purple confined to the belly area. Red confuses me because the red extends throughout the whole underside and has a long pointy dorsal with a red edge, but then again, so does Ida. Red looks fat and round like a female and has a lot of yellow, but perhaps Red is well fed and not filled out length-wise yet. The males get quite beefy and thick. Either way he/she has a pretty long dorsal fin.

So Red is decidedly a boy (at least for now though I'm more convinced at the moment than I've been yet). He was strutting his stuff around today and has finally got enough size on him to start thinking about standing his ground to the female he's got his fins on show, not so much his colors though lol. So whoops now I have two boys and a single very grouchy girl. I should have trusted my judgment when I picked the first two up.

And because I caught a great shot of the Columbian today while trying to catch the Missy Brat face. He's such a pretty Gangster. Told my sis he's not coming back from his time out and I will absolutely be getting him some friends. I'll probably order them when I order the new Congos.

And of course the new little guy Odin (last pic). Since he had a moment of peace and decided to come say hello to the camera.

In case anyone is wondering, yes there's platy in here at the moment. No they aren't staying permanently. Yes they're probably pregnant. They're from my son's tank. I'm just trying to convince myself to take them to the local place. They've gotten so janky in the past couple months I simply feel bad doing it to the poor fish. Keep hoping they'll get rid of the high school dim wits and get things back in order. Owners wife has been back more recently and it's shaping up a little bit but she's got her little one in tow who was born last July and when everything went waaay downhill while she did mom duty for a while. I think at least the tanks get water changes again now....

Yes, very nice pics. I'm happy you are keeping the columbian and getting him friends. You kind of have what I've wanted for my 90g for a while now. Fish are so colorful and I love the African theme.

I honestly can't sex your kribs either lol. You are right, they are gender neutral lol. I couldn't find any good pics of my pair of kribs, just a couple of them when the male was all grey. His colours changed dramatically after a couple weeks or so in the tank, he was very colourful, I wish I had a pic.

He spent a lot of time in the cave, actually a week and when he came out, he was escorting a ball of babies.

Here's a couple pics of the babies when they started to mature

I uploaded those pics to my phone for you lol. Hopefully that can help you sex them?

My male kribs didn't have any yellow at the gills and were more blue than yellow overall.

They are really a pretty fish. Odin is quite yellow and I've seen very little blue in him at all but he's not quite found himself a place to call home yet because Ida is such an awful grouch. I'd expect him to find a bit more color down the road he's still quite a bit smaller. And Red has essentially no yellow except in his fins but does have a bit of blue near his gills when it catches the light it looks like armor plating lol. Ida is red and yellow and blue and mean lol.

I think I've said it before, there are many color morph of kribensis. Oddly enough, I still love the original. Anyway, in my case, the male offspring were mini males and female offspring were mini females. Always the same thing and easy to sex. Obviously there are many different types even referring to fins. All the females were yellow, all the males were blue. Both female and male get red bellies. The female, when she's gravid gets a noticeably rounder belly and it's almost purple. The males were longer in the body.

    How's the new krib doing?

New Krib is.... Well... He's kind of the Omega of the group. He's getting it from both the others lately and sticks pretty close to the ctenopomas most of the time. He's very personable with me and always comes to say hello when he sees a moment that grouchy is otherwise occupied. He's putting on size well and surprisingly doesn't seem to be too stressed by the bullies. There's really no long periods of chasing or anything so he's able to zip out of sight and it's over. He hasn't ever washed completely out color wise whereas Red has lost stripes for days lol. They're all very different but Red and Odin I like both of them, Ida on the other hand may get to move on either I'll set up a tank for her or rehome her if she doesn't stop her nonsense.
