Default 40 breeder Brichardi cichlid species tank!

This tank was originally purchased to replace a 29 gallon saltwater setup that blew a bottom seam 2 years ago... that happened just days after our son was born 2 months premature, talk about bad timing. My local saltwater shop held the fish, and the few corals that survived, until I was ready to start over. Obviously that didn't work out, since this journal is in the fresh section... I tried to get things back up too quickly, and I never found the balance I had in the 29. I decided to go back to freshwater with a planted community setup in the 40, which worked out well.

I always thought about the brichardi I had several years ago, regretting that I had gotten rid of them. A couple weeks ago I decided to go back to the cichlids, so I returned the fish I had to the lfs and purchased a bunch of juvenile Brichardi. As soon as a pair forms I will rehome the rest of the fish and then watch the colony develop.

I know everyone likes pics, but what about a video instead?

Thanks, I'm really looking forward to these guys building a colony... no signs of a pair yet though... probably won't be much action in this thread until that happens...

You've set up a very nice tank.
A naïve question: Did you use real rocks?

You have just about tempted me to get some. Apart from the fact they are prolific breeders

Yes, and no. The flat rocks are real, purchased from a landscaping supply company. The "round" rocks are ceramic and are hollow with access holes, I have all the holes pointed towards the back of the tank for a more natural look. These rocks have also been in other setups, and therefore have some algae buildup also...

Here's a link to the artificial stones: cichlid stones

They are a beautiful fish, but they definitely need their own tank. And they will fill out the tank... fun, but not for everyone...

Your rocks all look very natural. You did a great job in setting up your scape.

    Thanks!

Decided to take all the driftwood out, and slightly rearrange some of the rockwork.
