Default Is my mystery snail dying?

    TLDR at bottom
My roommate has a fish tank. In said tank, there is one male betta named Jagerbomb, Jager for short, and two snails. When she got the snails, she named them Jimmy Carter and Teddy Roosevelt. However, as we found out after about a month, Teddy was in fact Eleanor, and she laid her first clutch of eggs. We were of course shocked, as we do not have room for 50-200 baby snails. We had to improvise a nursery, in fact, and we incubated those babies til they hatched. Well, shortly after they hatched, Eleanor laid another bunch of eggs. Since we can not support this many snabies (snail babies), we decided to separate Jimmy and Eleanor so they could no longer procrate. Eleanor went into my tank, and my snail Buzz went into hers. Well, ladies and gentlemen, this sent Jager and Jimmy into a tailspin of despair. While Eleanor was living her life in my tank, Jimmy and Jager refused to eat, they refused to move, they were inconsolable. So we moved Eleanor back. She and Jager are still perfectly fine, but Jimmy is acting weird. He's currently on his back in the little vase in the tank, on his back, yet still fully out, reacting when he's touched. We've tried to feed him, we've tried everything we can think of, but he's just not happy. We don't know what's wrong, he has his wife back. Any ideas?
TLDR: my roomie's male snail Jimmy is on his back and not dead but he's not snailing around

How long have you had them? I could be wrong but I think their life span is only about 2 years.

That is correct, they only live 2 or 3 years.

It is easy to tell if a snail has died, give it a sniff, you will know right away.

We flipped him and he just retreats. Now another one of my snails, Yuri, is doing it too, after trying to make a grand escape across my desk. We thought it was an illness but there are 3 snails that are as of yet unaffected. The 3 healthy ones are larger, if that makes a difference.

Sometimes snails go through a hibernation type period. Just check them periodically to make sure they haven't expired. Nothing fouls a tank like a dead mystery snail. It will cause smaller tanks to crash and has seriously messed with my 75 gallon when it happened to me.
