    Question Neon Goby Ich

In an effort to get back into the saltwater hobby, I recently purchased a neon goby for my desktop tank. I acclimated him slowly and did the drip method. When he was in the tank it looked like he had quite a bit of ammonia burn (red gills & gasping at surface). I have done 50% water changes daily to help with that. He hasn't gotten out much until today. Now that he's out in the open I can see he has a small case of ich. Since he is in a tank all on his own (other than some marine hermit crabs) do you think it would be profitable to just keep him in the desktop tank. I have a quarantine tank and some Ich formula by Kent Marine so I can quarantine him if I have to but am afraid that may do more harm than help. Any suggestions?

Copper or hyposalinity is all I know of. Been out of sw game for a decade. Heat won't work in sw as far as I know.

If I used either of those it would have to be in a quarantine tank. I need to state the question better. Do you think that I should just continue the tank on as is, trying to keep good water parameters or should I just put it in a quarantine tank and use additives?

Sure. Thats where I was going to put it originally but decided to put it here since it had to do with a disease. Whichever you think is appropriate Slap

We don't have many SW enthusiasts here, but the ones we do may look there more often

After doing some research I have seen that I will need to quarantine the fish. I have only had one outbreak of freshwater ich before and it was cured by keeping the water quality up and adding small dosages of salt. I have now discovered that with Marine Ich, this is not enough to relieve the fish of the parasite. So, I have decided in an attempt to save the fish and hone my skills, I will try to accomplish a hypo-salinity treatment. This will be done by lowering salinity by .02 until it reaches around 1.08 or 1.10. The fish will be kept at this salinity for roughly 4-6 weeks and then I will provide an increase of .02 until it reaches back to normal levels. I know this was my fault. My friend quarantined it for me but I believe I kept it in the bag to long which caused it to have ammonia burn, resulting in the ich. I hope that I can bring this little guy back to normal.

Sorry about this issue, its really sad.
Sad to say it, but there is little can help with. More watching and learning for my SW soon. What I was wanting to know thought, is how long was it in the bag for??
