Default When to Add German Blue Rams

If you were going to add German Blue Rams to a soon-to-be-stocked Rainbowfish tank, would you add them before or after the Rainbowfish? Or does it matter?

Not sure if it matters, but GBR's can be a tricky fish to keep, so I would consider EBR's or Bolivian rams over them

If I had to "guess", I would imagine you could add them at the same time, but I've no experience with either of these fish

What makes the German Blues tricky?

I believe overbreeding and overselling = weak stock many times, but don't quote me on that

I understand why that would make them tricky.
Any Ram is territorial during times of breeding so I think it might not matter when I add them. I'd like to avoid any conflict by getting two of the same sex

The water parameters are very different for each fish. GRBs require soft water and rainbows fairly hard water for the most part. I've often read GBRs require the same maintenance schedule and water parameters as discus.

Just had to pipe in, I keep EBRs (and recently GBRs) and the electric blue is only a color morph of the German blue ram. They are just as sensitive if not more so since their gene pool is so limited. If you'd like to try an easier ram, bolivian is the way to go, they can tolerate water slightly harder than the GBR or EBR can. They are very colourful once they settle in to the community, don't let the drab coloration at the LFS fool you :)

And as Taurus mentioned, IME they do best in very soft water with lots of water changes and a higher temperature, like discus do. They are often seen housed together in the aquarium.

This is, more or less, the most correct answer to the question.

Perhaps it's best just to keep all Rainbows in my tank and skip something like a Ram.

I think Rainbows and corys would look great.
