I'm wondering if diatoms are what I've been battling for a bit now, as well. I really didn't think that was what I have, but reading through this thread has caused me to reevaluate. Sil, did you happen to take a photo of yours?

I did, but only to 1 tray in my canister and it's not a full tray as I only had 1 bag on hand to put it in. As soon as I get time to pick up another I'll add it as well.

On a side note, I noticed on Friday that the new diatoms from my last W/C (Sunday) have only begun to grow on the lower levels of the tank. By that I mean when I started my W/C I placed my python in the tank and walked away. It drained down until the python lost vacuum which is normal for my W/C, but this time I didn't begin to fill it right away and the water level sat at 50% for about 45mins to 1hr. Here's the interesting part......The diatoms are only growing from the 50% water level and below. This gives me hope that I may be able to do a complete break down of the tank, scrub every rock and then refill it thus getting rid of a large portion of the free floating diatoms in the tank. I think this along with Phosguard may actually get it under control. Problem is trying to find the time to do all of that as both of my boys are in baseball right now and we have 6 games this week alone (Mon, Tues, Weds, Thurs and a double header on Sat)!

So I decided to get rid of my Africans yesterday. Here's the link to the new thread......

    http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/aqua...d.php?t=126093

Hopefully with the new BN Pleco and live plants in the tank it will totally get this problem under control. I had it down to very small patches every week so what I was doing was working, but it was time for a change.

Thanks to all who took the time to give their advice on this!
