I'm really enjoying my Cherry barbs. Unfortunately I only have a couple of males in my group, but boy are they bright. Maybe because they have so many females to show off for! And some of the females are either really fat or have a big load of eggs. I don't expect to see fry in my community tank, of course.

I'd like to double my group to about 20 or so. I don't see cherry barbs at any of the LFS very often, so I may have to order some. But I was hoping to find them locally so I can pick out more males for my group. (Ideally, I would have a balanced group, or maybe slightly more females than males, right?)

They were a bit nervous of the much bigger rainbows and dwarf gourami at first, but have since decided the bigger fish are no threat. They jump right in and compete at feeding time. Brave little cuties.

They were on our wish list at the beginning, but when we were ready for them, a few at our LFS had ich. Since then they all seem perfectly fine, but K isn't interested anymore.

I almost like the color of the females better than the males.

I love my cherry barbs! They might be my favorite fish.

I had some troubles when I had too many males right at first but then read that a 2f:1m ratio was best for them. My tank certainly agrees with that ratio.

The females (for me anyhow) are a little more difficult to find, but I love their coloration every bit as much as the red pop of the stunning males.

They do not chase anyone (in my tank) besides themselves, but I do not have lemons. One (only one) of the females does eat the tiniest shrimplets. It is how I know when some have arrived, actually. The males are much too preoccupied with one another and with chasing the females to have time for much else.

Old favorites, nothing wrong with them, I find myself getting caught up in the latest and greatest when there's something as awesome as these guys so available

Yes! That and determining which of them is boss male... in fact, they do spend the majority of their time/attention on that aspect.
    Haha
They are great fun to keep though.

In the second video of this thread, what ran through my mind was perhaps these males are juveniles. Clearly, the female CBs with them are not, though... so not sure. Maybe they are all just barely old enough to sex?
Perhaps it is simply the lighting, as others have suggested.

LFS around me seem to get them in mostly as juveniles, in a 'mixed batch' or else adults, 'males only'. I've purchased some that I had hoped were female that turned out to be male.

I was going to post a photo of mine in this thread, but I set it in in my journal instead. (I lack photography skills)
