Ok tx, probably 18" like my 90g and 120g. For me the EA type only grows background plants well. My stem plants in the background like rotala grow really nicely only once they reach 10 inches or so. So the EA is good in behind the DA. The DA will grow shorter plants in the foreground.
.....like dwarf sag, crypts, stargrass (used as a carpeting plant). I also have used hygro rosenervig as a ground cover filler.

I too am trying to adjust from a flora spectrum to 6500k. I think i'm going to have to modify the fixture and change the diodes to 10000k before I can turn the 6500k fixture on high. It's just too yellow to be a dominant light. I think you'll like the fspec

If I'm reading your post correctly, I should place the new DA light closer to the front of the tank and the older EA light behind it? I was going to do it opposite with no rhyme or reason, lol.

Both will be on a timer and I'll have to play around with the on/off times of each for awhile. Right now the EA actintic's kick on at 9:30am, then the whites at 10:30am. They both run until 6:30pm when the whites shut off. The actintic's run for another 2hrs until 8:30pm and then the tank goes dark. That's the daily routine unless I have guests or a party where people are congregating in the basement, then I may turn the whites on for a little longer manually, but that's rare.

You can keep the same cycle of actinic and white with the EA. But yeah, I put the higher PAR light in the front to penetrate furthur and grow the shorter plants in the foreground. Really both are in the middle, but with the stronger light in the front. You can play with how far back you want to put the EA, but the stronger light should be far enough back that it doesn't cause green algae on the glass. At least, that's what I have noticed. Plus I want light on my plants, not the glass.

I figured I'd give an update since it's been nearly 3 weeks since I posted here........

I received the new light about 1 1/2 weeks ago and set it up for 1/2hr (10:45am - 6:15pm) less than the old light, which is still on the tank. I took Kat's advice and put the new FS light near the front of the tank and the old W/B near the back. It only took 1 week for me to start seeing some algae growth as well as diatoms so I cut the new light back another 30mins (11am - 6pm). I still think I will need to cut it back even more but we'll see. It may take me awhile to get some pics uploaded as I have to resize them myself, but I will try in the next day or 2.

I'm sorry for your loss. The aquarium looks pretty nice. I just started the forum. I've got some ideas. I think I will learn more from you and the forum users. I really like your project.
