Default Glass catfish + water bridge connecting two tanks

This is a weird and specific question, but I'm hoping someone has an idea.

I'm planning on making up a glass catfish tank with ten glass catfish and a betta. I'd like to do it as two connected twenty-gallon tanks that the fish can swim between. However, I'm wondering if the catfish could have trouble where one goes across to the other tank and then, by itself, is too nervous to swim and gets stuck on the side without the rest of the school. Does anyone know how good they are at navigating/how much they'll explore if they're separated? The connecting bridge is under a foot long, so a lone catfish wouldn't need to travel very far to return to the rest.

If you have ever seen videos of glass catfish in aquaria, you will see that they are a relatively shy and stationary species. It seems that they are happiest tucked in between plant leaves and don't really roam around much.
These characteristics don't really make them suitable for crossing an exposed bridge.

Have you considered other, sort-of transparent fish like X-ray tetras?
