They are very interesting and beautiful and no two tanks are the same. you can have just a few leafs and pods or you can go all in like I have. I will say tinted, botanical type tanks are just like getting the MTS once you start you can not go back.....lol.

Just be prepared to have bits and pieces floating through your water. I can tell a big difference when all the bottom feeders are foraging for a snack in the botanicals. I must pont out that I do not use any machanical media. only bio media, I am soon going to be adding a peat to the filter to help keep the tint where I want it and to see what kind of affect it has on my PH.

Can you get us some pics or a vid of the others, next time you see them?

Shrimp are opaque when ill. Sis saw it and immediately said bacterial infection or copper poisoning. I had some ghost shrimp close to 2" and they had started to go cloudy. I put in some purigen and it took the excess Cu out of the tank and i was able to save some. We just threw 40 of them in a couple tubs for plant clean up. Hope Diva leaves them alone, she did before.

Is it alright to treat the whole tank. There is no way anything in this tank is coming out unless dead or me pulling the wood out just not enough room to maneuver even a small net.

That's what a healthy one looks like, love their markings.

What I have been reading is that it is usually fatal-especially when that advanced.

    Okay first things first!

The term “Ghost Shrimp” is a generic name given to many similar appearing shrimp species. The range of shrimp that are labeled “Ghost Shrimp” is vast and ranges from Neocaridina to Macrobrachium species of shrimp. The most common “Ghost Shrimp” in North America is the American Glass Shrimp (Palaemonetes paludosus), and it looks like that is what you have.

    Now on to the problem:

As has been mentioned above, the milky white tail is a grave sign. That attribute is frequently if followed with death.

    So what causes it?

Most “Ghost Shrimp”, including American Glass Shrimp, are sold as feeders and are treated as such. They are collected using careless techniques; they are shipped in horrid conditions, and they are housed in horrid conditions at the retailer. This causes the vast group of “Ghost Shrimp” to be venerable to many infections and often die because of stress related conditions.

So is it bad water conditions that caused this with your shrimp? Probably, but doesn’t sound like it was in your aquarium, you seem to take care of your water! It probably happened prior to you owning the shrimp!
    And some info on them in general;

    https://animaldiversity.org/accounts...tes_paludosus/

So it seems either wait and see, or remove the opaque shrimp.

I love ghost shrimp. I wish I had a place get them from now.

Unfortunately I never successfully saved any once they started going opaque. I always bought more that I wanted to have because there was always some eventual death loss. The ones who survived always went on to have a happy life.

Yeah, like mentioned-they are usually sold as feeders so they are treated as such=trash. You can buy them from pet stores as well, but they are closet to $0.99 each (cheapest online price I saw) versus the $0.34 feeder shrimp (at least in my LFS).

I liked having them in my tanks-good cleanup crews and not as pricey as the amanos.

I haven't sat and just watched my tank for a couple weeks now. We talked about milky shrimp equals dead shrimp. He has grown and he has out lasted other shrimp that were bigger. Besides the colors and the exaggerated hump, he seems just as active as the other two.
