I am looking for angelfish Segrest Farms, which supplies my LFS. I am only interested in the "wild type" angels; I don't care for all the colored ones.

They have several strains in their catalog--Rio Nanay F1, Rio Japura, Rio Nanay Wild, Rio Negro--but no info on what the differences are. Anybody have any ideas about this? If so, I would be most grateful!

Well these are all different regions in the Amazon Rio Negro being mostly in Brazil and Rio Nanay Peru not sure about Rio Japura have to look that one up. Also F1 stands for a first spawn from wild caught parents.

The differences will be in coloration and only collecting from the different rivers will we know the extent of those differences. I'm sure someone already did but its a matter of finding photos and data of that online :/

I can ask Segrest about the differences/what's in stock or available. I see the owners son every now and then and can contact him. well maybe former owner or whatever im not sure the details. The farm was just recently sold to a company can't remember the name but needless to say it was a multimillion dollar deal...

Hey, thanks, Joe. That's nice of you. I did find out about the F1/F2 thing. I've tried doing some photo searches on the different strains, and haven't really been able to find out enough to make any type of comparison. It's no huge deal; mostly I'm just curious. But if you can find out anything, it would make me happy. :)

Yeah, I really want altums, but they're a bit too tall to be comfortable in this tank, and probably too fussy in terms of feeding for me to be able to take proper care of them. I am interested in the Peruvian strain of scalares, though. Sue, that link you provided is really interesting in that regard.

I've always been impressed with Angels Plus for a numbers of reasons. And for what it's worth (probably nothing) Altums simply need a bigger tank.

As far as altums being fussy I guess it just depends. I just acquired 14 wild caught altums and have them in my 125 in softened well water with no issues. They will eat anything as well. This is them eating brine shrimp.
    220g Frontosa tank.
    210g monster fish tank.
    125g planted wild altum tank
    55g grow out tank.
    29g quarantine tank.
