So I forgot to mention I decided to order some Otto's. I took a chance and ordered from Liveaquaria. I did some research and the reviews weren't horrible. there were a lot of 5 star and some 1 start, but I decided to give it a shot. I received them today and out of the 10, 3 were dead, I called and they made it right without much fuss. I have the other 7 acclimating right now. I'll get some pics of them tomorrow, it will be light out (or dim i guess) till tomorrow for the new guys.

Congrats on the newbies...I always say order a few more than you want to keep, they have a high mortality rate, unfortunately

Yeah I guess I should have, overall the experience wasn’t bad with them. So maybe I’ll order some more next time I order.

First I know it’s been a while since I update this journal. Lots of projects. But I have a couple of questions. I had a mystery snail lay some eggs. Now at the time I just did some quick googling and tried something but it didn’t really work. So any advice for the next time, any hints? Maybe some kind of hatchery?

Second question. I planted micros swords hoping they would carpet but they just haven’t budged at all. Any other suggestion for a good carpeting plant that maybe is a little lower on the lighting demands?

Mystery snail clutches are easy to hatch, there's lots of vids out there, here's one

Ok, thanks. I have them in a position to keep them moist, but its only been about a week, so maybe I can still get them to hatch. I may make something better this weekend. I have no idea what I will do with all the babies. Maybe some local hobbyist will want them.

Yeah, I hatched one once...put all of the baby snails (dozens of them) into a 10G with a bunch of platy babys...ph crashed as the snails grew and their shells pulled all of the calcium ions out of the water column...best bet would be to give/sell most away, and keep the ones you want

From then on, I just trashed any future clutches that popped up

Oh good to know, I have 3 in my tank now, plus two nitrile snails. So I'm sure they will all go somewhere else lol.

So I'm making a new sump for my 180 gallon aquarium. I got a $20 55 gallon aquarium I'm going to set up for it. I'm going to make a refugium in the sump and want to use some of my crypts from this tank. They have taken off and have already gotten to a spot where I need to clear them out some. So how do I go about propagating crypts so they can be replanted in my refugium? thanks
