Default dwarf gourami and his tank mates

hey everyone, have a problem and looking to get some feedback.

I have a 29g tank with a dwarf gourami, a molly, some other bigger tetras and they all get along pretty well.

last week i picked up 10 neon tetras and shortly after i started discovering one by one they were dead. i had no idea what was killing them as all the other fish seemed fine. Today i finally discovered the cause, the dwarf was killing them. I watched him chase one down, pick at it and it rolled over and died. he then started going after the other 2 left in the tank.

is this usual behavior? I noticed him go after my long fin tetra. will I have to get rid of this guy or you think he will play nice with others?

It doesn't sound like he is playing nice now. I guess time will tell.

Dwarf gouramis can be that way...aggressive and territorial

I'd rehome him if I wanted to keep small peaceful fish like neons

Well my local fish store took back all the neons. 7 out of the 10 were dead. 2 alive and 1 missing.

I really like the neons but I also really like the dwarf and I've had him for awhile. i need to get the schools up of my other fish so ill focus on that first then come back to this whole neon/gourami problem later.

he likes to go after my long skirt tetra who is all alone so i need to increase that count.

Yes, as noted earlier in your other thread, no tetra should be kept alone, especially with an aggressive fish. Tetras are social fish that need to be in groups.

territorial fish may consider their tankmates "fixtures" in their environment and fail to register them as intruders, but once you add a new species, these may be attacked. It could also be that the neons were compromised from the beginning due to a combination of transfer stress, multigenerational inbreeding at the big farms and questionable rearing practices and the gourami was just picking off the weak.
