You did nothing wrong, looks like they're "starving" for calcium

You want it to sink though...mine floated for a week, finally grew tired of that and wedged it under some DW, on the backside where it doesn't show

Thanks for the reminder, I need to get another piece, mine is all but gone

I only use it in the 5.5G shrimp tank, though I have shrimp in all 4 tanks

Supposedly you can use Tums antacids as a calcium source too, but I haven't tried that yet

I used this thread as a reminder to check on mine, as well. I let it sink naturally -- that took a bit of time, but didn't really bother me much. After it sunk, then I tucked it within some plants. I have to purposefully check for it to be able to see it.

There is often a shrimp on it, when I do. You did well to add yours, good job on that. I don't think there is anything wrong with your method.

Ok great! We'll see how that goes....

And antacid pills-yes, they are calcium carbonate, but they would dissolve faster. There are pure calcium carbonate vitamins as well. I prefer the slower disolving method myself so that params don't change too quickly. I'm telling you, my water gets VERY soft. Kh will get consumed in a day. I had forgotten about supplementing minerals for creatures that require it! Thanks all. I'll update this thread as I figure things out. Good to go back to.
