    Default Paul's 135 Gallon Tank

Well, it's official... I made a deal to acquire a 135 Gallon, 6 foot long, 2 foot tall tank for $85, plus $18 to have it delivered to my home.

I will be selling my second 55 Gallon tank, as I don't have room for it and a 135. Plus the sale of the 55 will basically fund the purchase the purchase of the 135...

I am too excited... Though I have no idea what I will do with the 135. I am trying to decide between a large community tank of several schools of small fish or a Cichlid Tank.

Which would you do? And why? Mind you, I know this is a very personal choice kind of thing, but honestly, I have seen both types and love them both. If I had room I would do both!!
It's my kids fault I am hooked on this hobby... It all started with a Desktop 5 Gallon Father's Day Gift!

    I would do a cichlid tank !!!

You have another 55g besides the one your selling correct? That can possibly be your smaller schooling tank.

I do, but it will be home to my two Goldfish. Long story, but I wound up with one Comet Goldfish after killing many fish due to BAD advice from a Local Pet Store. The Goldfish was "hearty" and "surely you can't kill it", and "It would be perfect for a 5 Gallon Desktop tank..." Well, he was 1 inch long when I brought him home 10 months ago, and now he is pushing 7 inches. I now have him in a 20L while I build the 55 into my wall.

Tetras are attractive... I may do tetras in the 20L that the Goldfish are in now once I move them to the 55 Gallon... I could still put quite a few tetras in a 20L.

Congrats on your new, huge tank, Paul! I'm so excited for you!

Whatever you do will be great fun, but since you asked: I'd totally go with Congos too. They are such beauties and can't be housed in small tanks. Then I'd likely check out compatibility for Clown Loaches to house with them. (I have no idea if these two have the same water requirements -- have not looked into it) They simply are two types of fish that I would dream of having a large enough tank to house them in.

I'm subscribed and will enjoy watching this build, whichever direction you chose to take with it.

I'm with Matt and Rivers. Large school of congos and even larger schools of smaller tetras. Lots of activity in that tank for sure.

Thank You. . I think... I just emerged from a 90 minute You Tube excursion into "Tetra World"...

You are right. The Congos are beautiful. And I liked a lot of the tanks I saw. I have two pieces of driftwood (one large and one medium) I want to put in this tank and while I don't want to get crazy about plants, there were several tanks with simple to grow Anubius, Swords and another whose name slips my mind... But the important thing is, I could see myself enjoying that type of tank.

I also saw a "Black Ghost Knife Fish" in a tank with the Congos, as well as an African Leaf Fish. Both of which are really cool looking fish.

I also really like the look of a 3D rock face background for a Cichlid tank, and it was my initial thought for this tank, so I think I will start a few stocking wish lists. I still have plenty of time to think about it. I will strip the old silicone, re-seal it and insure I get it done right and that it is going to hold water right away. If I find this guy isn't being totally honest with me, I want to know sooner than later. But after I've done that, it will be 6-8 weeks before I can set it up.

I feel silly being so excited knowing I won't be able to do anything with it until I am finished with the basement walls. If nothing else, it is certainly a motivation to get other stuff done!

My wife can't believe I'm getting a much bigger tank. But, I like getting killer deals, and this was a killer deal!!

    Thanks Again Slaphppy!
