For the original question, you can try otos, but I'm not sure how well they'll do with brown algae...mine all crave the green algae

I have no problem at all with you guys taking the thread over. I got a lot of information from reading the previous posts so thank you! So what I have gathered to try to fix my problem is to do a big (80% or so) water change and make sure I thoroughly clean my canisters and rinse my media and see if that helps with the brown stuff?

If I do this should I also remove the brown algae from the fake rock and fake wood?

Yep but no need for such a large water change unless you dont mind. and I would scrub the algae prior to the water change and filter cleaning so you also will remove any algae suspended in the water.

Picked up 5 Ottos last night and I woke up this morning not expecting much since they needed time to acclimate to their new environment. To my surprise they had done a good amount to of work on the brown algae and I can now see half of my white Rock again!

What are the best veggies to feed these guys so they don't have eat just algae?

After the weekend I am happy to report that about 75-85% of the brown algae that was in my tank is now gone. The fake white rock is just about white again and the fake wood is also almost white again! I am assuming for the veggies I am supposed to cook them to make them soft before putting them in the tank? Also, how long should I leave them in the tank if they don't get entirely eaten?

No cooking necessary...all can be left in for up to 3 days, except for the brocc and cauli...two days max on those, or they'll make the water smelly...not harmful, just smelly

How big is this tank?...you could add more otos, they're social and do best in larger groups anyway
