    Default Should I get Ottos?

I have a good amount of brown algae that keeps coming back even though I clean the fake rock and fake wood every week when I do my water changes. I have read elsewhere that Ottos can help to clean up the brown algae but wanted to get some feedback from you guys before I go get 6-8 of them for my tank.

I am in A similar situation I am getting A dusting of green algae on my glass not A whole lot but enough that it bothers me as wellas some brown algae on my Decor so I did give some ottos some thought as well.
From what I've heard I can be completley wrong and hopefully someone can chime in who has more experience with them that they are quite sensitive to water conditions,My water is very good except that I am always battling high nitrates because its A little high coming out of my Tap.
I may still get ottos have not decided yet if I am going to go with them or Cory's as my bottom feeders.the one thing I worry about with ottos is them getting enough food as my Black ruby's are eating machines and I am leaning towards getting Diamond tetras who love to eat as well!

Otocinclus need to have a supply of veggies and not left to just feed off of algae. Also corydoras do not eat algae.

I'f you need quick and trustworthy info this is my #1 choice http://www.seriouslyfish.com/ besides AC of course :P

I would be getting the Cory's mainly to Stir up my bottom on occasion because my Substrate is black sand and everything settles on top of that,I think Cory's would fair better in my tank than otto's anyway.
Though its not A major issue I know I am getting some Algae Growth from the higher Nitrates and until I get that addressed there is not A whole lot I cn do other than to keep on top of it.

What is your filter cleaning schedule? Do you siphon your substrate with every water change? Also what is the feeding schedule and how much are you feeding?

My sand is vacuumed with every water change and I churn it up once every couple of weeks not drastically just enough to get any air pockets out,I have not cleaned my cannister yet as the Flow is still very strong My bio-load is not terible with (8) black rubys so I have A bit of time before I need to mess with that.Detris sitting on top of the sand is not terrible It just bothers me A bit. With the Sand being Black it does show everything, its bearable I am just A bit picky!
This is actually My first Tank that was not African Cichlid. So having plants and signs of Algae are things that are new to me.Algae with my Africans were not An isue neither was stuff settling on top of my substrate as my africans were always digging and spitting everything all over one of the reasons I never had plants with them.
So going with A Barb tank is A bit different But I'm liking it,They are very active fish.At least they are not as territorial as Africans you put the wrong mix of Africans into A tank together and it could turn your tank into A war Zone!

As far as feeding goes They are eating once A day I'm alternating between flake & pellet!

I meant do you siphon the substrate its likely a given that you siphon the water :P

I suggest cleaning your canister ASAP It can harbor organics decomposing causing the increased nitrates.
