There is so much debate on using these 'bacteria-in-a-bottle' products. Sometimes the old-school way is still the best, especially when something can't be proven to be effective yet.

But you have the fish in there now, so we want to make them as comfortable as possible. Do you have a test kit? Can you measure ammonia, nitrite and/or nitrate?

It requires medication based on your ph, lowering the temperature to low 70s, but if the water isn't excellent, the medication will not help. I don't see the white specs though.

I don't see anything wrong with the fish except that the mouth is stuck wide open. You posted some nice clear pics btw.
You'd think there would be some swelling, does anyone see anything?

It's a little more noticeable in the first pic. that one has some white at the base of its dorsal fin. And it's not visible in the pic, but it also has a little white stringy thing coming from its mouth, and some white spots on its body.

    So pre-water change:
    pH is 6.6
    Ammonia .25
    Nitrite .25
    Nitrate 5ppm

I figure the ammonia is from the two dead fish today. I didn't have time to change the water when I got the first one out this morning, and who knows how long the second one was dead. I'm treating the water for the tank now, will do another test and update.

After sitting out for 24 hours, what is the PH of the water that you use to add to the tank?

What liquid test brand are you using?

Bacterial infection considering how fast the fish are dying. I would treat with both Maracyn 1 & Maracyn 2. If those are not available, Erythromycin and Kanamycin Sulfate.

    I did another water test.

    pH 7.2
Amm <.25 though it's still a little green
    Nitrite <.25 a shade purple
    Nitrate <5 ppm

I'm going to do a second change in a bit to try to get the numbers down further. My last two seem pretty stressed out, so I wanted to give them a break before I disrupt their space again.

I don't have any of those meds and it's too late to go buy them rn, but I do have API Melafix, API general cure, and Kanaplex. could I use any of those??

30 minutes after the water change, try Kanaplex.
