Prime really does expire possibly?? I've read online that it doesn't have a shelf life. Plus there's no expiration date on the bottle. I've had this one bottle for a while now

    Or

The thermostat I use to test water temp out of my faucet is broken causing a huge temp difference.

    Or

A drastic change in my tap water??

Only my shrimp, snails, and sterbai are all in tact. The only species in my tank that didnt lose at least one.

I'm at a loss. This sucks.
Wow just reading up on the losses. My guess maybe the water company upped the chloramine and the Prime wasn't sufficient? I know our water has been smelling a bit off/chemically so I up the Safe dosage to be sure. Weird it didn't affect the shrimp...

I'm still trying to figure out the cause of my mass exodus.

    Current filtration: 2x AC70's
Current stock after my huge loss:

    2 Colombian tetra
1 green neon tetra (poor fella)
    1 SAE
    4 dwarf chain loaches
    7 sterbai corys
    5 bamboo shrimp
    Unknown number of assassin snails
Unknown number of RCS and blue shrimp

My plan is to get the following:
20 green neon tetra, 20 cardinal tetra, 4 Colombian tetra, 1 SAE, 1 green dragon BNP, 8 zebra otos, maybe a few more bamboo shrimp.

In my mass exodus I lost:
All of my rummynose, 11 green neons, 2 Colombians, 2 dwarf chain loaches, 1 SAE :(
The green neons and the cardinals will look very similar to one another, I'd get 20 of one (not both) and 20 of another small/midsized tetra just for some variety...just my opinion

For the thermometer: fill a glass with ice (crushed or shaved is best, but cubes will work), fill the rest of the glass with water, stir, and test...it should read 32F....have the tip of the thermometer around the midsection of the glass, but not touching it

Thermometer is working fine so it must be my tap water. I'm going to double the dose of prime from 4 ml to 8 ml just to be sure. Extra Prime shouldn't affect my fish, correct?

No it won't. If I remember correctly it should say on the bottle you can triple the dose without issues.
Oops I am wrong-but in a good way.

    https://www.seachem.com/prime.php

To detoxify nitrite in an emergency, up to 5 times normal dose may be used. If temperature is > 30 °C (86 °F) and chlorine or ammonia levels are low, use a half dose.

I think Seachem states that you can safely use up to 5X the regular dose...

So my brother wanted to take my son and catch some tadpoles in our front yard ditch, which is cool. We did that all the time when we were kids. However, we didn't find any tadpoles, we found actual fish (no clue what kind). So I pulled out my spare little 10 gallon tank and dumped them in there along with the ditch water and some foliage. My kid is super stoked. Do these things have any chance of a life in this tank? Or will I need to purchase an entire setup? Right now all I have is the tank, I don't think I even have a lid for it honestly. It's sitting outside on our covered back patio. I'm in Louisiana so the weather (temp) really isn't a concern this time of year.

I'm wondering if these are mosquito fish. They look like livebearers, to me.

What a fun way to play-learn alongside your son! He will remember this adventure with you.
