Dopey me!
1
Cleaned my 65, got the Prime into it and filled up the tank. Changed out the quilt padding and rinsed the biobeads. Got all done and plugged in the filter, and heard the loudest, harshest grating sound ever! Thought there might be a huge rock inside the impeller chamber. I immediately UNplugged it, and then it dawned on me: I had forgotten to fill the filter box with water, and had started it up while dry! I filled it with water and plugged it in again. It started priming right up and appears to be working fine. But -- WHEW! I could have destroyed my filter, or even started a fire!
First time that's ever happened in all my years of keeping fish.
Bet I don't forget, again!

It must be a WC filter flop day today. First time ever for me, I broke the filter down, cleaned it all, put it back in place, filled tank and plugged the filter in. Zero, zip, nada. No whir, no sucking sound, dead. After plinking the motor with my finger, plugging it into a different outlet in the strip and then plugging it directly into the wall by itself, still nothing. So now I have to put the nice clean filter media back in the icky water where it had soaked. Empty the water from the filter and pop off the motor.
What.
No impeller.
I forgot to put it back after I cleaned it. 7 whole days since the last WC and I forget how to do things. Sheesh.

So it really was filter flop day! This one was on the 10g, I had just finished doing the one on the PK a few minutes before and that one went just fine. Silly mistake but a harmless one, except for the toll it took on me!

I've come very close to doing that a few times.
Once, I put some components together backwards, and had to take the filter apart and reassemble it correctly -- discovering it only AFTER I had tried to put it back onto the tank and found that it didn't fit right.
It happens ....

Oh heck, I'm in the middle of a water change on my saltwater tank right now. I'll be careful after reading this thread.
Warning; Bulldog Pleco guarding my Sons tank now..
Please remember; every keystroke has a consequence.
