I can't even see the netting, looks to be working really well! I'm also glad you posted this because now I know what the plant is that was hiding in my floating plants when I bought them.... hygro angustifolia! Seems to grow pretty fast.

It does! I bought the emersed form, it transitioned nicely and I have propagated it and spread it out already. I anchored it to help it root, the roots grow strong and fast too. My fish don't eat it either. A great plant for cichlid tanks :)

The former name was angustifolia, the new name is hygrophila sp. Pantenol 'wavy'.

That whole center piece of substrate where the hydro angustifolia is planted is netted btw.

Yes! Like a horizon. I planned to DIY a new longer backlight to go across the whole length, I was thinking about a RBG strip with a remote to change spectrum, or just 10k white. I have to consider that I think it helps the vals at the back to grow and the bamboo growing emersed, so it also has a purpose aside from aesthetics.

Thank you :) I used rocks to create and retain hills in my 90g, but I could have used gravel wrapped in pantyhose (or netting). It helps the landscape to keep its shape. An old scaping trick for creating hills. It works without being buried in the 120g because it camouflages well and it's behind the front slope. I like it. We'll see how it works!

I've been researching Seachem Matrix bio media and DeNitrate to help reduce nitrates. I do believe it could work once the media grows anaerobic bacteria, but it would take a while and I don't think the high flow of a canister filter is the best place to grow it. So I started thinking about a special filter for the Matrix, one with a flow less than 50 gph and minimum of 20 gph. It would have to be an internal filter where oxygen doesn't flow thru. So I found this.

I could go from there, add a gentle pump and tah-dah!

That way I don't have to sacrifice any of the bio media already in the Eheim, and I get more bioloigal filtration

I'm pretty excited about this idea :)

    And another idea

It doesn't scare me as much to DIY this because I don't want a lot of pressure flow. I think it's perfect!

DIY denitrators are not worth the hassle unless your tap water is pushing 40ppm in nitrates or higher; even then there are easier methods like an algae scrubber. I've known quite a few who did make a denitrator, and abandoned it after 6 months to 1 year. In all the cases, it was much easier just to do a water change.
