Thanks, guys, for all your comments. I did feel he needed a little more recognition given his long life. These 2 SD's were obtained during our early days in fish keeping. You know - when you don't know all of what you should.

I didn't at first, either. But at the bottom of this article it says lifespan for SD's is 5-10 yrs.

And towards the bottom of this page - http://animal-world.com/encyclo/fres...ns/sdollar.php - it says in captivity lifespan can be more than 10 yrs.

SD 1 lived a good long life.

Did you break the news to your son yet? Good luck to him on his first CPA exam, which of the 4 is he taking? Did he recently graduate with accounting theories still fresh in his head? You might have mentioned it, but I forgot. But, that is good, I'm sure he will do fine.

Yes, I told him this afternoon. He said the SD lived a long full life, so he wasn't too surprised.

Not sure I have the name correct but I believe the first exam he was preparing for was financial accounting/reporting? For some reason "FAR" sticks in my mind. He got his bachelors in June of 2014 and his Masters in December of that same year, so not too long ago. He's been working as an auditor for a large public accounting firm since November 2014, so hopefully that experience adds to the book knowledge. And his company paid for the study program he's been using for the exam. He's completed the application to be certified to take the exam but hasn't submitted the final application to get a date/location - this is driving me nuts, so I drive him nuts asking about it.

Yep, FAR, financial accounting and reporting. I guess he is studying for the April/May cycle testing. It is good that you are pushing him, but don't give him too much pressure, lol. It can be intimidating if it is his first time taking the exam, but if he studies for a month; I think he will do fine considering he is working in auditing now. I don't consider the exam hard so long as you are familiar with the fundamentals/foundation and study prior to taking the exam. It is important to understand the theories and concepts and its application, not memorizing. This way, the thinking is not static and allows for creativity and will stick in your mind for a long time.

I'll pass this along to him - gently. I totally agree with you about the "application" of theories and knowledge which is why I believe his work experience will help a lot. While I don't remember much now, I was a math major in college. You could memorize all the formulas you like, but if you didn't know how and when to use which ones it didn't matter that you could recite a list of them.

Finally, my 2nd silver dollar pass on last night. Was about the same age as the 1st one mentioned above - somewhere between 13-15 yrs. old. Now I might try some vals or hygro angustifolia or something similar in this tank. The sd's mowed down the vals I tried and even some of the crypts, although the crypts keep trying to make a comeback and many were not affected at all. They left the anubias and java ferns alone after maybe a test bite on new growth.
