Seen a lot of reviews saying it has a short lifespan (about a year). How long have you had yours? Have you noticed any issues?
Sorry for all the questions... just trying to sort real reviews I see from crap ones. lol
I don't use the JBJ but I do recommend it to people. If it was a reef I'd say get a lite controller that comes with a probe instead of the jbj. The JBJ is very accurate and will keep the tank heated. I have no experience in regards to their lifespan. I would not expect the device to fail after only a year. You are able to recalibrate it for accurate results if that was a concern.

I personally just run my heater in my apartment right now, and AC in summer. I have a heater in my sump set to 74. It really only there as a safe guard really, I don't see my water temp dropping with the automated heat/cool program on my apartment.

My metal halide produces enough heat during the day, to the point I have fans timed along with the light cycle so my water doesn't elevate.

The best inline in my experience, for larger systems, would be Inline Heater by Aqua Logic.

I use only titanium submersible heaters. a bit more pricey, but they rarely fail. especially valuable if you have large setups and/or expensive fish.

finnex makes a good titanium heater. as does jebo and catalina. I can practically run them dry when I do water changes with no ill effects. been using them for probably 5-6 years no probs while my regular heaters have always burned out or broke over the years.

For those who have the Hydor inline heater: does it keep pretty consistent/accurate temps? I wish there was something that would actually automatically shut off the heater if it reached a pre-set temp. I guess that is the reason to get a Hydroset or something similar as a back up? Any issues when you do a canister cleaning or clean the canister tubing? The only thing that really scares me about them is that they are hidden out of sight. I like being able to see at a glance that my heater is working (powered/heating). That might take some getting used to to build my confidence level.

Mine keeps very accurate temps, I set it and forget it.

No issues with cleaning the filter hoses, just some compression fittings hold it in place.

It has a red indicator light that goes on and off when the heater kicks on/off...I do have to peek around the side of the tank to see it, but I've grown to trust the heater so much that I rarely do.

I don't run the heater in the summertime, my tank stays around 78F without it.

When you do your WC do you unplug the controller or both the heater and the controller?

No need, they are inline so its never out of water. House gets warm in the summer so I shut the heater off entirely about May-Sept...October last year.
